Why Fabric Weight Matters in Sheer Curtains
September 10, 2026
Most clients choose a sheer by its color, or simply because it has no pattern. But what really determines how a sheer sits in a room is its weight — its grams per square meter.
Lighter sheers hang closer to the glass and move more fluidly. They let in plenty of light and shift more with the air in the room. They work beautifully in large-windowed, bright spaces, but on their own they don't offer much privacy.
Heavier sheers diffuse more light and cut visibility from outside more effectively. Their folds hold more definition, and the drape reads richer. In exchange, they hang a bit heavier and move only slightly.
When we suggest a sheer for a project, we look first at the window size, then the direction of light, and only then at color and texture. Weight sits right in the middle of that decision — the same sheer can read completely differently in a different window.
